The power of positive reinforcement

It is important for fathers to remember that the purpose of discipline is to help your children learn how to do better. The best way to accomplish this is with positive reinforcement. When the kids do what they are supposed to do, offer plenty of encouragement: “You finished all your homework! That warrants a bike ride before dinner.”

Another good incentive that a father can reward with is to have them put a sticker (or a simple checkmark if he finds stickers too babyish) on a chart every time the kids complete a tough behavioral task — like getting ready for bed on time — and reward them with a trip to the zoo or ice-cream parlor at the end of a successful week.
