When Angelina Jolie recently announced that being pregnant is great for the sex life, many people wondered just what she and Brad knew about that they do not.
Some may continue to have an active sex life with their pregnant wife, but this is not the case for everyone.
Writing for MSNBC on the issue, Brian Alexander, author of the book America Unzipped: In Search of Sex and Satisfaction, notes that intimacy can be helpful for parents and baby alike.
He cites a Polish study that states: “Research makes it evident that experiencing sexual satisfaction by pregnant women improves their self-esteem, facilitates [the] mutual relationship between partners and tightens the marital bond.”
Armin A Brott, author of Expectant Father: Facts, Tips and Advice for Dads-to-Be, told Mr Alexander that most men are still attracted to their pregnant wife, but are unsure about how she feels about the issue.
At the same time, he states that although many women feel sexy while they are expecting, they are concerned that their husbands will not feel the same way.
“There is lot of second guessing that goes on about sex during pregnancy,” Mr Brott says.
The key to a healthy sex life both during and after pregnancy is communication, according to both men.
Some guys are also worried about how being intimate may affect the health of the baby or mother, but medical experts suggest that as long as the pregnancy is normal and healthy, sex should be no problem.
