By this time in the baby’s development, you have probably started to add solid foods to your baby’s diet. An alternative to buying commercially prepared baby food, is to make your own.
While jars of baby food are very practical, there are many benefits to making your own baby food:
- You can decide what you put in to your baby’s food. Many parents, for example, are very sensitive to how much corn syrup can be found in foods for young children.
- You know what foods your baby is allergic to and can avoid them.
- Homemade baby food is free of additives and preservatives.
- You can include a greater range of food articles than are found in commercial baby food.
- You have control over the quality of the ingredients and can ensure that your baby gets only the best.
- Your baby gets to try different foods with various flavors and textures.
- Homemade baby food is much more economical. All ingredients that you need are already available in your kitchen. Besides saving on the cost of buying commercial baby food, you get more value for your money.
These are a few things to do if you are making your own baby food:
- Learn more about infant nutrition.
- Discuss your child’s dietary requirements with the pediatrician.
- Introduce new ingredients one at a time, allowing four days to watch for allergic reactions.
- Always maintain high standards of hygiene.
- Continue experimenting until you find what suits your baby best.
